  • Origins & Vision (2016-2018)
    • Initiated by Lithuania in 2016 after two years of discussions within the European Association for People Management (EAPM).
    • In 2018, an official IHRD Committee was formed to coordinate and promote the initiative.
    • The first IHRD slogan and logo were created, setting the stage for wider celebrations.
  • The First Celebration (2019)
    • May 20, 2019 – the first International HR Day was celebrated in seven pilot countries: Lithuania, Ireland, Denmark, Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, and Switzerland.
  • Global Expansion & Impact (2019-Present)
    • By 2024, over 80 countries actively participated in celebrating IHRD.
    • Recognised as a global initiative highlighting promoting and celebrating HR and the people profession.
  • Exciting Activities & Challenges
    • Events include conferences, webinars, social gatherings, and innovative challenges.
    • Walk15 Challenge (2024): Over 13,000 participants from more than 75 countries walked a staggering 6,000,000+ km collectively!
  • Inspiring Thought Leaders
    • Prominent speakers have included Paolo Galo, Niamh Mcnamara, Jarle Moss Hildrum, Bjørn Taale Sandberg, Dainius Baltrušaitis, Austėja Landsbergienė, and many more.
    • Topics covered: Leadership, lifelong learning, ethical AI, and the future of work.
  • Annual Themes and Topics
    • Each year, IHRD spotlights a key theme reflecting HR’s evolving challenges and opportunities.
    • 2019-2023 Theme: “Shaping the New Future” – focused on trust, inclusion, wellbeing, and sustainability.
